A Single Photo vs. a Carousel Post
This is the part that actually changes depending on what you're downloading, so it's worth knowing in advance.
On a one-image post, you'll get a single preview and a download option. There's nothing to choose between — one photo in, one file out.
On a carousel post — Threads posts can carry up to twenty images in one post — every photo in the post shows up as its own separate item in the preview, in the order the original poster put them in. From there, you download the ones you actually want, one at a time. There's no single "save all" button right now, so if you want the whole carousel, expect to tap Download once per image rather than once for the whole post. It's a bit more clicking on a big carousel, but it also means you're not stuck downloading ten photos to get the one you wanted.
If a post mixes photos with a video, the video won't show up in this tool's preview — the Threads Video Downloader is built around pulling that out separately.
Saving the Image Once It Loads
Where the file actually lands depends on your device, not on ThreadsGrab — this is normal browser behavior, the same as saving any image from the web.
On iPhone or Android: once the photo loads in the preview, tap the download option. On iPhone's Safari, you'll typically get a prompt to save it to Photos or to the Files app, depending on how the file is served; on Android, it usually goes straight into your Downloads folder or gallery app without asking. If nothing seems to happen after tapping Download, check your Downloads folder before assuming it failed — some browsers save silently without a visible confirmation.
On a computer: clicking Download runs through your browser's normal download flow, which almost always means it lands in your default Downloads folder unless you've changed that setting. There's no separate desktop app for Windows, Mac, or Linux — any modern browser works the same way.
Resolution, Format, and What ThreadsGrab Doesn't Add
The resolution you get is a ceiling set by whatever the original poster uploaded to Threads — this tool doesn't upscale a lower-resolution photo into something sharper than it started as, and it doesn't add its own compression on top of what Threads already serves. Most Threads photos come through as JPG files, since that's the format Threads' own servers typically deliver; ThreadsGrab passes along whatever format the source file actually is rather than converting it.
Nothing gets added on ThreadsGrab's side — no logo, no watermark, no filter. If the original photo already had text, a username overlay, or a watermark baked into it by whoever posted it, that stays, because it's part of the actual image file, not something layered on top by the app.
When an Image Won't Download
- The post doesn't actually contain a photo. Text-only posts and link-preview cards (the little box Threads shows for an outside article) don't have an image to extract.
- It's actually a GIF, not a still photo. Threads GIFs are short video clips under the hood, so they won't show up here — use the Threads Video Downloader instead.
- The account is private. This tool only works with posts that are visible to someone who isn't logged in. If you can't open the post in a private/incognito browser window while logged out of Threads, this can't either — and it isn't built to get around that.
- The link points to a reply or quote post, not the original. Go back to the actual post with the photo you want and copy that link directly.
- The post was deleted or edited since you copied the link. Re-copy it from Threads to be sure it's current.
- The link looks cut off. A truncated URL — common when copying on mobile — is one of the most frequent reasons a paste won't process. Copy it again and check the full link made it into the box.
Using a Downloaded Threads Photo
Saving a photo to your device doesn't automatically give you the right to repost it, use it commercially, or claim it as your own. In general, only download and reuse photos you took yourself, have clear permission to use, or that you have some other legitimate basis for keeping a copy of. That's true whether the photo is a stranger's, a business's product shot, or a piece of art someone shared publicly — public visibility on Threads isn't the same as an open license to reuse it.
