What You Get: the Avatar Threads Serves Publicly
A Threads DP is the small round image beside a name. The app shows it tiny, so people reach for a downloader to look closely at a face, logo or illustration, or to keep a copy of their own.
ThreadsGrab looks up the public profile and returns the largest version of that picture Threads makes available to it. You see it before anything is saved.
Two limits are worth knowing up front. Threads serves avatars in a few fixed sizes rather than the file originally uploaded, so expect a modest square — hundreds of pixels across, not thousands. The exact size can differ from account to account. And ThreadsGrab doesn't upscale, sharpen or enhance the result. A tool promising 4K from a profile photo is stretching pixels Threads never provided: the image gets bigger, not sharper.
Start with the Profile, Not the Picture
You need one of two things: the account's username (typed with or without the @), or a link to its profile. In the Threads app, open the profile and use its menu or share option to copy the link. In a browser, copy it from the address bar. Links on threads.com and threads.net both work.
A profile link ends at the username, like threads.com/@username. A link with /post/ in it points to one post, not to the account's picture.
If you're unsure whether an account is reachable, open its link in a private browser window while logged out. If the profile page loads, ThreadsGrab can look it up.
Make Sure It's the Account You Mean
Similar accounts are common, and a wrong picture costs nothing until you use it. Check in this order:
- The username, not the display name. Usernames are unique. Display names aren't, so two accounts can show the same name. The @handle in the profile link is the one to trust.
- Look-alike spellings. A swapped letter, an underscore instead of a period, or a zero where an O should be can separate two accounts. Compare the handle character by character with where you first found it.
- The rest of the profile. The bio, the posts and the follower count should fit what you expect. For near-identical accounts, check each account's follower count.
- The preview. ThreadsGrab shows the account's display name and a link back to the profile on Threads. If either looks wrong, don't save yet — open the link and compare.
Handles also change. A username you noted a while ago may now lead to a different account, or to nothing.

Use the username when you know it exactly. Use a link when you're unsure of the spelling: copying beats typing, and one wrong letter can open a different real account. In a browser, the profile link is the address-bar URL. In the Threads app, open the profile and choose Copy link from its ••• or Share menu.
Before you save, compare the display name under the preview with the person you meant. The link beside the preview opens the account on Threads. If two accounts look alike, you can compare their follower numbers.
What ThreadsGrab Does with a Profile
You give it a public username or profile link. It asks Threads for that account's public profile picture and shows what it found: the picture, the display name and a link back to the profile. Nothing downloads until you press Download File Now.
What you can save is that one image file, as Threads serves it. ThreadsGrab doesn't enlarge, enhance or watermark it. It works with public profiles only. If an account never set a photo, you'll get Threads' default placeholder — that's the account's real state, not an error.
What "Full Size" Can and Can't Mean
In the app, an avatar is drawn at tens of pixels across. That's its display size, not the size of the file behind it. Three things decide how sharp a saved picture can be:
- What the owner uploaded. A small or blurry original stays small or blurry.
- What Threads serves. Threads generally keeps several pre-sized copies of each avatar instead of handing out the original upload. ThreadsGrab asks for the largest copy Threads makes available. Two accounts can therefore return different sizes, and none is guaranteed to match the original file.
- How you view it. Browsers scale images to fit the screen, and a stretched preview looks softer than the same file at 100%. Open the saved file and zoom to 100% to judge its real detail.
Enlarging isn't the same as getting a larger source. Stretch a 300-pixel image to 1,200 pixels wide and every original pixel becomes a 4×4 block — it fills more screen, but no new detail appears. Avatars also reach you already compressed, and a screenshot adds a second round while capturing only what your screen shows. In practice, expect a modest square image, good for reading a logo or recognising a face, not for printing a poster.
Saving It on Android, iPhone or a Computer
All three work in an ordinary browser. There's no app or extension to install.
Android. Open the profile in Threads and copy its link (or note the username). Open this page in Chrome or your usual browser, paste it in, and tap Download. Check the name and picture, then tap Download File Now. The file goes to your Downloads folder and often shows up in your gallery app too.
iPhone and iPad. Same steps, in Safari. After Download File Now, Safari either asks where to put the file or saves it to Downloads. Depending on your settings you'll find it in Files or Photos. Safari's Downloads list, in the address-bar menu, shows what just came in.
Computer. Paste the username or link, click Download, then Download File Now. The image lands in your browser's usual downloads folder. Where a file lands is the browser's decision, not something ThreadsGrab controls.

Public Profiles, and Where the Line Is
ThreadsGrab works with what Threads makes publicly accessible without a login. Threads treats a profile's photo, name, username and bio as public information even on private accounts — the privacy setting governs posts and follower lists, not the profile picture itself. The tool never asks for a Threads login, password or code, and no page should. Deleted or suspended accounts have nothing to retrieve.
Profile Picture or Post Image: Choose the Right Tool
The two sound alike but live in different places. A profile picture belongs to the account: it sits beside every post and changes whenever the owner swaps it. An image attached to a post belongs to that post and has its own link. A post link won't give you the avatar, and this tool won't pull a photo out of a post.
- Photos inside a post: use the Threads Image Downloader.
- Videos: use the Threads Video Downloader.
- Not sure what a link holds: try pasting it — if the profile picture loads here it's a profile link; if not, it's likely a post link.
Why People Save a Profile Picture, and Where to Stop
Common reasons: keeping a copy of your own current avatar; telling accounts apart when display names overlap; checking a logo or branding image you have permission to use; comparing your current picture with an older saved version.
A publicly visible picture isn't free for any use. Saving a copy and republishing it are different acts. The picture may show someone's face or carry an artist's or company's rights. What ThreadsGrab Collects
- No login. ThreadsGrab never asks for your Threads or Meta password, token or 2FA code.
- Pictures aren't stored. Per the Privacy Policy, no pictures are stored on ThreadsGrab's own servers.
- Basic technical data is collected. That includes IP address, approximate location, browser and device type, and pages visited. The site also uses cookies and Google Analytics, and may show ads.
- Independent. ThreadsGrab isn't affiliated with Threads, Instagram or Meta.
